IndiGo has confirmed that Managing Director and Co-Founder Rahul Bhatia will assume interim leadership of the airline, after Pieter Elbers’ resignation as CEO on 10 March 2026

The carrier, operated by InterGlobe Aviation, confirmed that Managing Director and co-founder Rahul Bhatia will assume interim leadership of the airline.
Peter Elbers submitted his resignation, citing personal reasons and requested that his notice period be waived. In a letter addressed to Rahul Bhatia, he said that serving as CEO of IndiGo since September 2022 had been both an honour and a privilege.
During his tenure, Peter Elbers oversaw a significant phase of growth for the airline, which continues to be India’s largest carrier by market share. He expressed gratitude for being part of IndiGo’s journey and contributing to its expansion and operational development.

The leadership transition comes after a challenging period for the airline following a major flight disruption crisis in December. With Bhatia taking interim charge, the company is expected to maintain operational continuity while assessing the next phase of leadership for the airline.
IndiGo continues to play a pivotal role in India’s aviation sector, operating an extensive domestic and international network and maintaining its position as the country’s leading airline.
Here’s the full statement from InterGlobe Aviation Limited released to the Indian stock exchange:
