Dynamic Goa Tourism Minister, Rohan A Khaunte takes to White Water Rafting

Hon’ble Goa Tourism Minister, Shri. Rohan A Khaunte participated in the thrilling experience of White water rafting at Mhadei River, Valpoi on 14th August 2024.

This highlights the government’s commitment to showcasing the diverse and sustainable tourism opportunities within Goa’s hinterlands.

The activity effectively spotlighted the state’s hinterlands, demonstrating that Goa offers much more than its famous beaches.

Accompanying the Minister was also the Deputy Director of Goa Tourism, Shri. Kuldeep Arolkar, OSD to Minister (Tourism), Shri. Shawn Mendes, OSD to Minister (IT), Shri. Neville Noronha, Deputy General Manager & PRO, Shri. Deepak Narvekar and other government officials.

They explored nature trails, enjoyed adventure sports like river rafting, and engaged in immersive cultural experiences, showcasing the rich diversity of the region.

Hon’ble Tourism Minister, Shri. Rohan A. Khaunte stated “Goa has always been known for its beaches, coastal life, and vibrant party scene, but there is so much more to discover. Today, we experienced river rafting in Valpoi, Sattari—a refreshing and rejuvenating activity.”

He added, ” It’s a perfect adventure for everyone, whether visiting with friends or family, offering a deeper understanding of what Goa truly represents.

Championing Sustainable and Regenerative Tourism, Goa is set to become a model for sustainable
and regenerative tourism in India. Tourism Minister Khaunte emphasized the state's commitment to
green tourism practices, cultural preservation, and community-driven initiatives that benefit both
tourists and locals. He noted that the recent G20 discussions have further guided the state in crafting
a sustainable roadmap for the future.

With Goa being the first state in India to launch Regenerative Tourism, in the next thirty-six months, the department’s goal is to promote environmental restoration, cultural preservation, and community empowerment using four paths – spirituality, indigeneity, civilizational and cultural nationalism, and conscious tourism.

The Ekadasha Teertha or the Eleven Places of Transformation by the Goa Tourism Department are centred around local communities, especially the women and the youth and are meant to encourage the travel and tourism sector in India to adopt maintainable practices that benefit both the environment and the human population.
