Karnataka Tourism scripts history with big win of PATA Gold Award 2020

Karnataka Tourism won the PATA Gold Award in the Marketing Campaign (State and city – Global) category for its Script Your Adventure print campaign. In fact, this is the first-ever international recognition for Destination Karnataka for its marketing efforts.

The annual PATA Gold Award (Pacific Asia Travel Association Gold Award) celebrates outstanding achievements within the travel and tourism industry in the Asia Pacific. PATA acts as a catalyst for the responsible development of travel and tourism within the Asia Pacific region by bringing together private and public sector members.

This year the PATA Gold Award ceremony was a virtual affair owing to the COVID pandemic and was held on 24 September 2020. It attracted a total of 121 entries from 40 travel tourism organisations across the Asia Pacific region. A total of 23 awards were presented across various categories.

True to its tagline – One State, Many Worlds – Karnataka has something for every kind of tourist. Karnataka has a plethora of offerings; be it Heritage, Culture, Nature, Beaches or Wildlife. Keeping this in mind, the campaign focused on 5 popular destinations of the state which included Hampi, Manjarabad Fort, Kabini, Mysore and Om Beach.

Spellbinding visuals were created with the aid of aerial photography to project completely new perspectives of the destinations to lure travellers who in turn will script their adventure in Karnataka, and in the process discover themselves.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Tourism Sri CT Ravi said “ I am happy that Karnataka has won its first-ever international recognition in the form of PATA Gold Award for Marketing Campaign (State and city – Global) category for the Script your Adventure campaign. Today COVID related travel restrictions have severely affected our tourism sector. I am sure this recognition will give Destination Karnataka a positive image in the international and national tourism markets and will help us attract more tourists once the restrictions are lifted.”

Anil Kumar, IAS, Secretary to Govt, Tourism Dept said, “PATA has over the years set industry standards for excellence and innovation in the tourism industry and getting a PATA Gold Award definitely provides a major boost to Karnataka Tourism’s efforts to promote the state; both nationally and internationally. We are optimistic that once the COVID travel restriction eases out, tourism in Karnataka will bounce back.
