Konkan Tourism tableau showcased Maharashtra’s coastline, culture, adventure, and infrastructure during Republic Day celebrations in Mumbai

The Republic Day celebrations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park in Dadar commenced with the national flag being hoisted by Honourable Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. One of the main highlights of the ceremonial parade was the Konkan Tourism tableau, conceptualised under the vision of Honourable Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai, which emerged as a special attraction.
On this occasion, Dr. Pragya Manohar, Deputy Director (Tourism), Konkan Division, along with other officers and staff of the Tourism Department, were present. The tableau presented a graceful blend of Konkan’s rich culture, historic heritage, and modern tourism facilities.
The tableau offered a panoramic view of Konkan’s long coastline and its tourist attractions, rendered in very realistic detail. One of the most exquisite pieces was a large replica of the mighty Vijaydurg Fort, standing guard over the Arabian Sea. Alongside, the breathtaking depiction of the Ganpatipule temple mesmerised the onlookers. It also depicted the pristine landscapes of Konkan in their full, picturesque beauty and artistic expression, with models of contemporary tours, including scuba diving, dolphin sightings, and popular water sports such as banana rides.

The main attraction in this tableau was the model of the Ro-Ro ferry service, which has brought about a paradigm shift in travel patterns along the Konkan coast. In a way, it was a powerful presentation of the peaceful co-existence of natural beauty in terms of landscapes, the potential for adventures, and the advancements of technology.
In addition to the tableau, a theme song created by Maharashtra Tourism also struck a chord. Through its lyrics and music, the song celebrated Konkan’s natural splendour, folk traditions, cultural heritage, and artistic richness. As part of the main Republic Day parade at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park, the Konkan Tourism tableau raised Maharashtra’s tourism profile on the national stage, drawing greater attention and exposure to Konkan tourism.
Shri Sanjay Khandare, Principal Secretary (Tourism), Government of Maharashtra, said, “We are proud to present the Konkan tourism tableau at the Republic Day parade. This initiative is a significant effort to project and promote the natural beauty, culture, and heritage of the region, and we are proud that, through this avenue, the tourism potential of Maharashtra has been successfully showcased. This endeavour will undoubtedly infuse new momentum into Konkan tourism.”
Dr. B. N. Patil (IAS), Director of the Directorate of Tourism, Government of Maharashtra, added, “The Konkan Tourism tableau has successfully achieved a fine balance between traditional heritage and modern tourism infrastructure. Through models like Vijaydurg Fort, Ganpatipule temple, water sports, and Ro-Ro, an all-encompassing experience of life in Konkan has been provided. This event will go down in history as an important milestone in Maharashtra tourism.”
