TT Bureau: Do customers find it hard to see the value in travel insurance?

Sanjeev Srinivasan: A large number of customers would buy, if mandated by the consulate of the country they are visiting or if their agent pushes them to buy. However, we expect this to change once the world opens up for tourists. There will be higher awareness of the advantages of travel insurance and, therefore, we expect higher penetration going forward.

TT Bureau: Do insurance companies discover that the payout for travel insurance plans especially for medical problems during travel overseas is more costly than other insurance policies?

Sanjeev Srinivasan: The pay-out in case of medical treatment overseas is significantly higher compared to India considering healthcare cost in India is one of the lowest in the world. This fact is considered while pricing the travel insurance policies and the policies appropriately priced basis the Sum Insured opted for by the individual.

TT Bureau: What kind of coverage is found with Bharti AXA General Insurance travel insurance plan?

Sanjeev Srinivasan:  We cover the entire gamut of benefits that an overseas traveller would be exposed to. Hence, our travel insurance offerings are appropriately designed for different types of travellers. We offer a wide range of Sum Insured beginning from USD 50,000 up to USD 500,000. In the case of travel insurance benefits are divided into two broad categories – medical covers which include emergency hospitalization, accident, death or disability cover or any other health emergency cover; travel inconvenience covers which include lost baggage, delayed baggage, passport loss and many other covers relevant to an individual travelling overseas.
