Vibrant processions and glowing boat displays celebrated Goa’s deep-rooted traditions at Tripurari Poornima
The town of Vithalapur in Sanquelim came alive with vibrant lights, devotion, and cultural festivities as Tripurari Poornima was celebrated with great fervour. The event was jointly organised by the Department of Tourism, Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), the Department of Art and Culture, and the Department of Information and Publicity. It drew large participation from local communities as well as visitors from across India and abroad.
The celebration was attended by Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant; Hon’ble Chairman, GTDC, Shri Kedar J. Naik; Hon’ble MLA and Chairman, Goa State Horticultural Corporation Ltd., Dr. Premendra Shet; Hon’ble MLA and Chairman, Goa Infotech Corporation Ltd., Dr. Chandrakant Shetye; Director of Art and Culture, Shri Vivek Naik; Deputy General Manager, GTDC, Shri Deepak Narvekar; Assistant Tourist Officer, Smt. Chitra Vengurlekar; Dy. Collector, Bicholim, Shri Shubham Naik; Chairperson, Sanquelim Municipal Council, Smt. Siddhi Prabhu Porob; and representatives of the Deepawali Utsav Samiti and Shree Dev Vitthal Panchayatan Mandir Samiti.
A Celebration of Devotion and Tradition
The festivities began with a sacred procession dedicated to Lord Shrikrishna, followed by a Palkhi procession of Shree Vitthal Rakhumai that set a devotional tone for the evening. A series of cultural performances showcased Goa’s traditional music and dance forms, receiving appreciation from the audience.
The highlight of the evening was the traditional Boat Show, where intricately designed and illuminated boats floated on the waters, paying tribute to Goa’s maritime heritage. The symbolic ‘Tripurasur Vadh’ presentation — depicting the legend associated with the festival — drew keen interest, followed by the release of ‘Saranga,’ which lit up the night sky in a spectacular display.
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said the festival exemplifies Goa’s creative and cultural vitality. He announced that the top three winning boats will be preserved and displayed at Ravindra Bhavan or Kala Academy for visitors to appreciate the state’s unique craftsmanship. Emphasising the role of youth, he said that “Yuva Shakti is vital in carrying forward our traditions while contributing to innovation and progress.”
Community Spirit and Cultural Significance
Tourism Minister Shri Rohan A. Khaunte described Tripurari Poornima as a reflection of Goa’s spiritual and cultural depth, adding that such festivals allow visitors to experience the state’s riverine traditions and devotional heritage beyond its beaches. He underlined the government’s continued efforts to promote spiritual tourism and strengthen community participation.
Dr. Premendra Shet highlighted the festival’s ability to unite communities and enhance cultural pride, while Shri Kedar J. Naik noted GTDC’s role in beautifying the festival site and creating a welcoming ambience for visitors. Dr. Chandrakant Shetye praised the enthusiasm of participants and reiterated support for cultural events that celebrate local talent and bring economic benefits to Goans.
Director of Tourism Shri Kedar Naik said Tripurari Poornima strengthens Goa’s festival calendar by highlighting traditions rooted in local life and expressed the department’s focus on curating cultural experiences that engage visitors meaningfully.
During the event, the Chief Minister inaugurated an exhibition organised by the Department of Information and Publicity, showcasing Goa’s infrastructure developments and various aspects of state life.
This year’s Tripurari Poornima once again underscored the festival’s deep cultural resonance and the spirit of community celebration that defines Goa’s rich heritage.
