World Wellness Weekend Marks 10 Years With 20,000 Free Experiences Across 187 Countries

World Wellness Weekend returns with global programmes spanning hotels, parks, schools, spas and fitness clubs

World Wellness Weekend will return for its 10th-anniversary edition from September 18 to 20, 2026, with activities planned in 187 countries.

The global initiative aims to involve 15,000 venues, supported by more than 150 ambassadors and coordinators, and deliver over 20,000 free and inclusive wellness experiences.

World Wellness Weekend began in France and Belgium and has since expanded to more than 2,000 cities, bringing together wellness professionals, municipalities, hotels, spas, fitness clubs and community organisations under the mission, “Wellness for All.”

Activities planned during the three day event include fitness classes, mindfulness sessions, educational workshops, nature based experiences and community gatherings. Events will range from sunrise yoga in Bali and sound healing in London to forest bathing in Japan and community fitness festivals in Argentina.

Wellness Economy Projected to Reach $7 Trillion

The 2026 edition is aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goal 3, Good Health and Wellbeing For All.

According to the World Wellness Report 2026, the global wellness economy has grown from $4.5 trillion and is projected to reach $7 trillion by the end of 2026, as consumers increasingly prioritise prevention, resilience and longevity.

World Wellness Weekend is structured around five pillars:

● Purpose & Solidarity

The slogan for the 2026 edition is: “Connect. Recharge. Wellness is Energy: Turn your Wellness ON!”

Participation Expands Across Continents

Europe will see participation through the European Week of Sport across 40 countries and Fondazione Sport City across 116 cities in Italy. Spain will begin extended celebrations on Thursday, September 17.

In Asia Pacific, Japan plans to activate all 47 prefectures through more than 500 venues. Activities will include forest bathing among 2,000-year-old cedar trees on Yakushima Island and programmes at fitness clubs including Renaissance and Mizuno Sports Service.

In the Americas, Argentina will participate through 178 venues, while Brazil will involve 197 venues, including all 150 Buddha Spas. Mexico, Canada and the United States are also expanding public private wellness initiatives, including participation by more than 90 Planet Fitness clubs.

The UAE, Egypt, Senegal, South Africa and Cabo Verde will host wellness tourism and community access programmes across the Middle East and Africa.

Australia and New Zealand will participate through hot springs, resorts and community wellbeing hubs.

Italy, Spain and Japan Lead Venue Participation

Italy will have 635 participating venues through nationwide Sport City collaborations and fitness club participation with CIWAS, the Confederazione Italiana Wellness & Sports.

Spain will have 569 venues across Marbella, Malaga, Madrid, Barcelona, the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands. The programme will include city wide festivals, public activities and cultural wellness routes.

Japan will have 507 venues across all prefectures, supported by mayors from Hokkaido in the north to Kyushu in the south.

The United Kingdom will involve 188 venues, including all David Lloyd Clubs and Aqua Sana, with support from the UK Spa Association.

India will have 163 participating venues, with a focus on luxury hospitality and traditional wellness. Indonesia will have 124 venues, with activities linked to regenerative wellness tourism in Bali.

Cities Integrate Wellness Into Public Spaces

Several cities will use public spaces, institutions and municipal programmes for the 2026 event.

Marbella will convert public parks and seafront areas into wellness stages, while Madrid will activate schools, universities and cultural institutions.

Tigre in Argentina and Cabalango have declared World Wellness Weekend an “event of public interest.”

Higashikawa in Japan will integrate wellness into municipal health systems, while Barcelona will continue developing its position as a European wellness destination.

The programmes are linked to the growing concept of “Wellness Cities,” which focuses on urban environments designed for movement, connection and mental wellbeing.

Hospitality Groups and Industry Bodies Join Initiative

World Wellness Weekend 2026 will work with Wellness in Travel & Tourism, the Wellness Tourism Association, World Cleanup Day, the European Week of Sport and Campaign Nonviolence Action Days.

Participating hospitality and wellness companies include Marriott International, Accor, J Wellness Circle, RIU, Banyan Group, Mandarin Oriental, Six Senses, Hard Rock Hotels and Hyatt.

Spafinder will also participate as it marks its 40th anniversary.

Activities will be hosted across hotels, spas, fitness centres, community centres, hospitals, schools and public parks.

Focus Moves Towards Public Policy and City Design

As World Wellness Weekend enters its second decade, the initiative plans to increase its focus on integrating wellness into public policy, workplace culture, tourism, education and city planning.

Founder Jean Guy de Gabriac said, “Wellness is not a luxury, but a collective responsibility. We need to think Global, act Local and make wellness Social.”

World Wellness Weekend will also release a Wellness Report developed with CCIcomms to document the impact, outcomes and knowledge gathered during its previous editions.
