Hotel Broadway celebrates its 70th anniversary with the hotel, now reopening its doors as an Alivaa Collection. Hotel Broadway also celebrated 35 years of Chor Bizarre
Tirath Ram Amla, a businessman from Kashmir, had bid for a property to convert into a winter home for his family. Not having read the small print, he had to reluctantly build a 4-storey hotel for which he hired a young architect who had just come back from Harvard. A. P. Kanvinde built Broadway and then went on to design some of New Delhi’s greatest landmarks. When the Art Deco Hotel Broadway opened in 1956, it probably installed Delhi’s first lift and had many other firsts to its credit, including bed and breakfast, which was at a princely sum of Rs 15 for a single room with full board and lodging for a double room at Rs 42.
