The upcoming luxury development strengthens IHCL’s footprint in one of India’s most dynamic metropolitan markets.

Speaking on the announcement, Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President – Real Estate & Development, IHCL, said, “Chennai’s hospitality landscape is shaped by its strong corporate base, anchored by the automobile industry and a thriving IT ecosystem. Driven by its cultural richness and infrastructure, the city also benefits from a steady influx of leisure travellers and a growing MICE segment. The signing of this new Taj hotel on ECR is a strategic move to tap into this multi-dimensional demand. We are delighted to partner with MGM Healthcare for this project.”

Spread over 13 acres of pristine beachfront land, the 151-key Taj ECR Chennai will offer sweeping views of the Bay of Bengal. Conceptualised as a seamless blend of leisure and business, the hotel will feature an all-day dining restaurant, two speciality restaurants, and a stylish bar. Guests can look forward to indulgent wellness experiences at Taj’s signature J Wellness Circle, a state-of-the-art fitness centre, a swimming pool, and an array of recreational amenities.

Designed to serve as a premier destination for large-scale social and corporate events, the resort will include two expansive banquet venues measuring approximately 10,000 and 5,300 sq. ft., multiple meeting rooms, and sprawling beachfront lawns.

M.K. Rajagopalan of MGM Healthcare said, “We are excited to collaborate with IHCL. This development will offer a world-class experience to guests in Chennai.”

A city celebrated for its rich cultural heritage, classical arts, and architectural splendour, Chennai continues to attract both business and leisure travellers. Its iconic attractions—from the ancient temples of Mahabalipuram to the bustle of Marina Beach and the historic precincts of Fort St. George—make it one of India’s most compelling destinations.

With this signing, IHCL’s presence in Chennai will expand to 16 hotels, including six under development, further solidifying its leadership in South India’s hospitality market.
