SAMHI Hotels Limited has received formal confirmation from the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) granting an extension to the development timeline for its major hotel project in Navi Mumbai. The approval paves the way for the company to begin work on a landmark dual-branded hotel located near the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport and DY Patil Stadium.

The project, expected to feature around 700 rooms, will be developed in two phases, with Phase 1 comprising approximately 400 rooms. It is proposed to operate under the Westin and Fairfield by Marriott brands, subject to the execution of definitive agreements. Once completed, the property will be SAMHI’s largest hotel asset by number of rooms, reinforcing the company’s focus on expanding its presence in high-demand, gateway markets across India.

Project Highlights and Location Advantage

Strategically positioned along the Mumbai–Pune Expressway, the project enjoys close proximity to the Navi Mumbai International Airport, the DY Patil Stadium, and the Atal Setu Trans-Harbour Link. Its location offers strong potential for business and leisure demand alike, connecting it to key infrastructure corridors that are shaping the next phase of growth in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

According to SAMHI, the MIDC extension provides development clarity and aligns the project’s schedule with the region’s rapid infrastructure and commercial expansion. The dual-brand configuration will allow the company to serve a wide range of demand drivers including aviation, corporate, MICE, sports, entertainment, and leisure, helping to optimise occupancy levels and average room rates in one of India’s most dynamic hospitality markets.

Strategic Rationale and Growth Vision

Ashish Jakhanwala, Chairman and Managing Director of SAMHI Hotels Ltd., described the approval as a milestone that “unlocks a transformational opportunity” for the company in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. “This development will be a large, marquee addition to our portfolio, featuring a dual-branded hotel under the Westin and Fairfield by Marriott names. It positions us to capture diverse demand segments around the Navi Mumbai International Airport and DY Patil Stadium corridor.”

He added, “By prioritising Phase 1 with around 400 rooms, we can bring capacity to market sooner, align with infrastructure timelines, and then expand efficiently to the full 700 rooms. As our single largest hotel, it significantly advances our scale and strengthens our presence in a critical gateway market. With this, SAMHI has effectively covered all key office markets across India.”
