Taj Chandigarh has announced the appointment of Surinder Singh as its new Area Director – Operations and General Manager

With over three decades of distinguished experience, Surinder brings a proven legacy of leadership, innovation, and service excellence in luxury hospitality.
In his new role, Surinder will oversee hotels and operations across Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir. Leveraging his extensive expertise, Surinder will focus on enhancing revenue across the region by driving experiential hospitality initiatives that elevate guest engagement and create distinctive value propositions. With Taj Hotels holding a strong footprint in the northern region, his leadership will play a pivotal role in strengthening brand presence and accelerating strategic growth in this key market.
A visionary hotelier, Surinder has held several key leadership roles within the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), most recently serving as Area Director – Operations for Delhi NCR & Haryana and General Manager of Taj City Centre, Gurugram. Over the years, he has successfully led some of IHCL’s most iconic hotels, including Taj Mahal Lucknow, Blue Diamond Pune, IHCL SeleQtions, Vivanta New Delhi Dwarka, and earlier, Taj Chandigarh itself.
Known for his dynamic leadership style and strategic foresight, Surinder blends his early foundation in culinary management with deep operational expertise, delivering exceptional guest experiences while inspiring teams to achieve new benchmarks. His versatile experience across luxury and upper-upscale hotels has given him a sharp understanding of cross-cultural guest engagement, employee development, and sustainable growth.
Surinder’s focus on sustainability and operational excellence earned the hotel a coveted Gold Certification by EarthCheck, alongside stellar audit performances across safety and quality standards.
Beyond hotel operations, Surinder Singh is a strong advocate of community development and industry collaboration. He has spearheaded multiple skill-building initiatives in association with organisations like Pratham Education Foundation, empowering local talent for careers in hospitality. His active roles as Vice President of the Hotel & Restaurant Association of Northern India (HRAI) and Executive Committee Member of the Hotel Association of India (HAI) highlight his commitment to shaping the industry’s future.
Surinder has enriched his leadership journey through advanced programs at IIM Ahmedabad, Cornell University, and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, honing his expertise in strategic thinking, guest experience, and organisational excellence.
