Franck Muller has introduced two new models under its Double Mystery Collection, a line known for its unconventional display and bold use of gemstones. The latest pieces do away with hands entirely, using rotating discs instead to mark the passage of time. Both watches feature extensive diamond setting, high jewellery finishes, and the brand’s signature mechanical movement. With this release, Franck Muller continues to position itself at the intersection of decorative artistry and technical precision.

A New Way to Read Time

At the heart of the Double Mystery Collection is a distinctive approach to timekeeping. Instead of hands, the watch uses two rotating discs. A small disc at the centre indicates the hour, while a larger outer disc marks the minutes. This format clears the dial surface of any obstruction and allows the watch face to maintain a refined, minimalist character.

The Movement: MVD 2800-MY

Powering both models in the collection is the MVD 2800-MY, a bidirectional automatic movement designed and assembled by Muller. The calibre includes 217 components, operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, and provides a power reserve of 42 hours. Its dimensions measure 26.2 millimetres in diameter and 5.35 millimetres in thickness, maintaining a slim profile suited for elegant wristwear.

Finishing Techniques and Decorative Craft

The movement is finished with traditional Swiss techniques. Engraving covers the bridges, rotor, and mainplate. Satin brushing enhances the rotor plate and bridge surfaces, while perlage adds depth on the mainplate. The rotor board is bevelled, and the sinks and bridge bevels are polished using diamond-set tools. Sunray brushing appears on the bridges, barrel cover, rotor segment, and bearing cage, while wheels are decorated with circular satin brushing. Ratchets are given a snailing pattern for added texture. These finishes, executed by hand, ensure that each movement is as visually refined as it is mechanically accurate.

This model features an 18-carat white gold case, hand polished and rhodium plated. The case measures 39 millimetres in diameter and 10.05 millimetres in thickness. It is set with 206 brilliant-cut diamonds, with a total weight of 5.22 carats. Water resistance is rated up to 30 metres.

The sapphire crystal protects a dial set with 232 brilliant-cut diamonds weighing 2.28 carats. Fourteen indexes made of coloured sapphires, rubies, and tsavorites add a vivid element to the design, contributing 0.98 carats in total. The dial itself is polished by hand and rhodium plated. The watch is secured with a hand-stitched alligator strap and an 18-carat white gold buckle set with eight brilliant-cut diamonds weighing 0.06 carats. The dual-position crown allows both winding and time-setting.

The second model in the collection mirrors the case dimensions and movement of the first, with an 18-carat white gold body, sapphire crystal, and the same diamond setting on the case — 206 brilliant-cut diamonds, totalling 5.22 carats. The dial again includes 232 brilliant-cut diamonds weighing 2.28 carats, but instead of multicoloured stones, the indexes are crafted in baguette-cut yellow sapphires, with a total weight of 0.98 carats. The strap and buckle follow the same design, using alligator leather and an 18-carat white gold clasp set with eight diamonds.

Signature Movement Decoration

Muller extends its craftsmanship to the deepest levels of each timepiece. Bridges and rotors feature Geneva stripes, or Côtes de Genève. The mainplate carries layered perlage. Sunray brushing and snailing decorate key mechanical elements, and all visible edges are softened through chamfering. Mirror polishing enhances contrast across the movement, while bead blasting offers smooth matte textures where needed. Drawing is used to smooth the flanks of each part, and rhodium plating adds a final layer of brilliance and protection.

An Expression of Precision and Design

The Double Mystery Collection reflects Franck Muller’s long-standing commitment to precision, detail, and visual clarity. Each model merges contemporary design with centuries-old finishing techniques. With time displayed through movement rather than hands, and surfaces set with carefully selected stones, these watches transform daily function into lasting form.
